the Delta in the late spring during the pre-registration activities

For this consistency and knowledge of the river’s massive

of the Delta.

Future Pro Tour Comes to the California Delta
Nothing excites tournament bass anglers like the
California Delta. It’s 1100 miles of seemingly endless waterways
calls out to those in search of bass fishing excitement like no
other body of water can. Allot of that excitement in the fact
that most anglers know that any one cast…at anytime….to
any area in the delta.. can, and often does result in a producing
largemouth bass ranging in the 9 to 10 pound class.
And you can best believe that EXCITEMENT is what’s
in store for anglers preparing to compete in the upcoming Future
Pro Tour event on the California Delta Saturday, June 5th!
Brannon Island will be the staging point for this
4th event of the 2004 season, as anglers battle it out for points
and a coveted berth in this year’s 2004 Future Pro Tour
Classic presented by People’s Folsom Lake/People’s
Stockton-Chrysler-Jeep-Nissan-Hyundai-Isuzu dealerships. The grand
prize given to the Future Pro Tour champions will be the keys
to a new vehicle - of their choice - courtesy of this 5-star award
winning dealership!
Also noteworthy, is the battle for the Anglers
of the Year crown. In addition to dubbing the winners "the
best amateur team in the west", this title carries with it
free entries into next year’s Future Pro Tour events, product
sponsorships with Lucky Craft Lures, Reaction Innovations, and
Lamiglas, and free portfolio/resume services courtesy of Angler’s
Press.
Clint "Stogie Man" Basset and Ernest
Lujan currently lead the points race with newcomers Mark Daniels
and Harvey Pulliman "nipping" at their heels.
"The Delta’s our backyard and we’ve
got to show strong at these next two Delta events", said
Harvey, a first-year competitor on the Future Pro Tour circuit.
Harvey is new to the Future Pro Tour but not new to competition,
as he played major league baseball with the Colorado Rockies and
in Japan.
June can sometimes prove to be "feast or
famine" for those pursing bass on the river as post-spawn
fish tend to scatter out into many different areas.
But pre-fishing for the up-coming B.A.S.S event,
noted pro angler Kent Brown was very candid about the time he
has spent patterning fish on the river.
"Open water areas such as Frank’s Tract
are good right now, and there is a Frog bite to be had",
Kent noted. "Lately, the bite's been much better for me as
the tide is falling rather than when it's all the way out",
he further added.
The day prior to the event from 5-7pm at Peoples
Stockton-Jeep-Nissan-Hyundai automall, the Future Pro Tour will
present a seminar, featuring Delta expert and undisputed "Frogmaster"
Bobby Barrack, who will share with these amateur anglers some
of the secrets that have made him a force to reckon with on the
river. As featured in his popular video, "Just One More Cast"
Bobby will talk about the various methods he uses to catch Delta
bass and how to stay on top of a pattern during tournament situations.
And don’t miss out!….during this pre-registration/seminar
period the Future Pro Tour will celebrate the half-way point in
it’s season with a giveaway extravaganza! Just some of the
prizes those in attendance can win will be: a Minn Kota 65lb thrust
trolling motor; a free guide trip with Bobby Barrack on the Delta;
a Bottom Line Depth finder; Two tickets to the upcoming NASCAR
race at Infineon raceway; Free Gasoline Cards; Oil Changes; Trojan
Gel Batteries; Free launch passes and more!

the entire family..and join in on the fun!
Late sign-ups will be available the morning of
the event at the Brannon Island launch ramp from 4-6am, with blast-off
commencing at safelight. Get there early as this is going to be
a BIG field of anglers! If you need more information about the

See you all on June 5th!
Vince Harris – Director, Future Pro Tour
Future Pro Grows while others struggle
In this age of everyone seemingly having there
favorite circuit to fish, with numbers down in most pro circuits
anglers are choosing Amateur events to use as a ladder to the
Pro-Ams. These are the few circuits that continue to grow, especially
Vince Harris’s Future Pro Tour which offers seminars to
educate upcoming anglers before each event. Harris’s ability
to market and educate novice anglers through his ties with many
of the pro’s in the industry has really helped his circuit
blossom into a favorite here in Northern Ca. Harris’s Future
Pro series isn’t the only game around for novice anglers
as Angler’s Choice Semi Pro’s draw about 50 boats
a pop on the Delta. The Future Pro series draws nearly one hundred
boats and event. So I had to ask one of there participants, Roy
Desmangles a few of his thoughts about the Future Pro Series that
gets started March 20 at Lake Berryessa.
How do you like fishing the series?
Desmangles replied “I have been fishing
Pro/Ams for approx. 8 years. This is the best run tournament trail
that I have fished to date. I like everything about the tour.
The events bring a lot of fun to the art of tournament fishing
and it offers a fantastic challenge to test your skills against
some great people and talented sticks”.
What about the series would you recommend to the
fishing public?
Roy Talks about staying in the learning curve,
“It is important to stay on the learning curve in today’s
bass angling community. There are many techniques and new products
to know about and there are approaches to competitive angling
that are best explained by those in the know... in other words,
to better understand how to be competitive in tournament fishing,
one should be in an environment where there are teachers around
who know much more that the student. This series offers this experience
with a variety of seminars designed to educate the willing student.
The FPT has already staged seminars that have featured some of
the most respected anglers in the West. In fact, several events
have had as many as a half a dozen super stud sticks who attended
the event just to be around to enjoy the festivities and to meet
and greet the FPT participants. The buzz is out about the FPT
doing so fantastic! I am a witness that Pros from other states
even know about the FPT because I have fished with Pros in several
Pro/Ams that are familiar with the FPT and they are all amazed
at the amount of participation.”
Why do you think Vince draws nearly 100 boats
a pop when so many others are struggling?
“There is an old phrase that suggests:
"It's never the business, it's the people." Vince is
a very capable tournament director and he surrounds himself with
very like minded individuals who are passionate about his dream
to bring amateur tournament angling to the level of recognition
that it deserves. Vince and his staff are great communicators...
the FPT participants are always informed either by way of snail
mail, email, the FPT color brochures that are available everywhere
and what I personally think is one of the best web sites in the
game. In addition, the FPT is like a big fraternity. Man we have
a good time! There is a genuine good spirit at all of the events.
We often talk bad about each other and everybody busts a big laugh
because it's all in fun. You've never seen so many anglers at
any event shake hands and even hug when the event is over... it's
sick... in a good way (smile). Folks don't complain about the
FPT. Even if you loose you are a winner because Vince gives away
more product at each event than any three tournament trails i've
experienced put together. You might walk away with a $14.00 Lucky
Craft Rip Bait and three bags of high end worms and a snag proof
frog! WOW!” exclaimed Roy.
What about the director brings people back to
the events? It seems his smile and great ability to market has
been able to do things many of the larger circuits can't.
Desmangles stated, “As I said before, Vince
is a special tournament director. He knows what he is doing and
he has a sense of humor. Also, he stays on task and does not give
long boring speeches at all of the events. His information is
right on the button and on tournament morning he is all about
"Let's go fishing..." You better be ready to go because
Vince gets right to the blast off. The thing that separates Vince
in my mind from other Tournament Directors is his communication
with the anglers. We all know what is going on all of the time.
Also, he simply does not get all caught up in the non-sense. Wetting
a line is supposed to be fun and enjoyable and we all assist in
this effort at the FPT as a showing of respect to the sport and
to the FPT.”
Overall the series has a great schedule to build
anglers confidence in all situations, after the 2004 kick-off
event at Berryessa, the tour heads to Clear Lake in April, Shasta
in May, The Delta in June and August, Oroville and Folsom. The
TOC will be a split event again this year between Folsom and the
Delta. All things considered this could be the best training situation
for upcoming anglers to learn and grow competitively in the team
environment. Enjoy!
