Rains finally arrive to help spur the bite
On
the San Joaquin River there are plenty of stripers, 3 to 16 pounds,
being caught in False River, Mokelumne River South Fork and Lighthouse.
Bank anglers Off Highway 4, are taking stripers up to 10 pounds
at the black bridge on the San Joaquin River and Old River off
Bacon Island. Shad and mudsuckers do the trick.
Action
is fair on the Sacramento River side for striped bass in the 20-
to 24-inch range that seem to be hooked by trollers and bait anglers
at a variety of locations, from Steamboat Slough down to Sherman
Island. Sturgeon, 58 to 65 inches grab grass and ghost shrimp
at the powerlines near Decker Island and Collinsville.
A few larger bass are showing at Collinsville, where Joe Simas
of Stockton boated a 31-pounder on live bullheads. Near Rio Vista,
there is a consistent striper bite at the Old Dairy, Sandy Beach
Regional Park and the Highway 12 bridge.
The
big news continues to be that Big Stripers like the South Delta,
Grantline canal, Mildred Island lead the big striper bites all
kicking out linesides over 35 pounds in the last 10 days or so.
While the popular Dam areas aren’t producing flats next
to deep water have been key to the success for anglers fishing
live bait! Don't forget to
rent that aluminum Boat or Patio Boat from H20 to get to trolling
for those Grantline Stripers.
Crappie
are king! Bank anglers fishing the levees off Eight Mile Road,
Bacon Island Road and Lower Jones Tract Road, where small- and
medium-sized minnows are used to catch crappie.

Bob’s
Bait Report www.themasterbaiter.com
Finally
the raining season has been started from yesterday and continuing
to this Friday. This is the good sign and bad sign for Delta anglers.
The
good sign is this rain makes water muddier that help sturgeon’s
bite picking up. However, when water is muddy, salmon fishing comes
to an end, and striped bass fishing is slowing down with trolling
method to catch striped bass. Since water becomes cloudy, bait fishing
is better than trolling. The stronger scene bait the better it’s.
During this time, grass shrimp works fine but it’s not better
than ghost shrimp. The grass shrimp and ghost shrimp are the best
bait for striped bass and sturgeon. Depend on the areas where you
fish, grass shrimp sometimes works wells in most of the Bay from
Antioch Bridge down to San Francisco Golden Gate while ghost shrimp
works wells from Antioch Bridge up to Freeport in Sacramento area.
Normally, after heavy raining days for a couple days, sturgeon’s
bite sparks in most of the Delta areas especially along the sand
bar during the tide change.
Salmon fishing was slowing last week with few salmons were caught
at Isleton area. Meanwhile, in the South Mokelumne River between
Hog Slough and Beaver Slough, number of salmons was caught on Gibbs
Minnow and on Blue Fox spinner.
Striped
bass fishing was really good in the following areas including Sherman
Island, Decker Island, along highway 160 from Brannan Island to
Walnut Grove, Isleton Fishing pier, Isleton Bridge, Georgiana Slough,
Tyler Island Bridge, North and South Mokelumne River. The best baits
for striped bass are blood worm, pile worm, shad. Of course other
baits like sardine, anchovy, chicken liver, and mackerel also good
for striped bass. The best live bait that works in Mokelumne, San
Joaquin River is jumbo minnow while mud sucker works well in other
places in the Delta.
Sturgeon fishing was fair in Bay Point, Antioch Bridge, Sherman
Island, Decker Island, and Cache slough. Some sturgeons up to 65”
were caught along Sherman Island on Thanksgiving holiday through
Sunday last week.
This weekend would be good for sturgeons and striped bass fishing
when the rain will be stopped.
Best luck to you all and have a nice coming weekend.
The
long weekend holiday is approached. It would be very busy weekend
in the late fall. The demand for baits would be very high and number
of baits store in the Delta couldn’t handle with that huge
demand. For that reason, if you plan for fishing trip in the Delta,
be sure to call to your favorite bait store to check for the bait
you prefer to. The bait stores information can be found in the www.californiadelta.org
or www.fishdelta.com.
Good luck and wish all of you and your family having wonderful Thanksgiving
weekend.

The
Wilson Files- Mark Wilson
Dan,
Monday, November 28, 2005...Fred Hicks went striper trolling with
me today. We trolled Rebels in 12' to 16' of water all day. We trolled
around Sherman Island on the Sacramento River side. The water turned
pretty clear and was at 56 degrees. An overcast day mixed with sprinkles
and some wind. A good day for trolling? No, it was a lot slower
today than it has been. We did manage about 20 hits for 5 shakers
and 8 keepers to 8 pounds. We kept a 4 fish limit between 6 and
8 pounds. Headed to Vieira's early to clean fish and home right
at rush hour traffic. That's it. Good luck. Catch you later - Mark.

Hook
Line And Sinker Report
Robert from the Hook in Oakley reports.

Black Bass:
The bass bite has continued its steady bite for numbers of fish
with most anglers reporting 15-30 fish days with fairly no problem
and the fish are biting a lot of different presentations. The
most consistent still seems to be the crankbait bite with Luhr-Jensen
Speed Traps, Lucky Craft Fat CB BDS 3 & 4, CB-200 and Flat
CB DR and River2Sea V-crank all being top producers right now.
The key has been finding the clearer water for consistent action
and as the water temp continues to drop that will become a bigger
factor. Flipping jigs and plastics has been a solid pattern as
well with Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver and Boom Boom Tube
and Zoom Brush Hog and 8" Dead Ringer have all been producing
fish. If you find clear water all the baits in watermelon/red
or green pumpkin will produce and for stained water black/red
or junebug. Rodstrainer, Bobby D's and Revenge jigs have all been
producing good numbers and quality fish with black/blue and brown
being top color choices and try either a junebug or match the
jig color for a trailer bait. There has also been a decent topwater
bite going with buzzbaits and spooks but it has been better later
in the day as the water warms up a little.
Striped Bass:
The stripers have covered about the entire system right now as
I have been getting reports of fish from the Mothball Fleet to
Stockton and from Tracy to Sacramento. Most of the fish being
reported are 12" to 5lbs. with a few fish over 10lbs. coming
in but the bigger fish are mostly being taken on bait. Jumbo Shad
and Mudsuckers have been top producers of fish to 37lbs. lately
but bullheads, pile worms, fresh shad and jumbo minnows will work.
Try finding clearer water also for the stripers and don't be afraid
to fish big baits.
Sturgeon:
The sturgeon continue to pop up from Pittsburgh to Chain Island
with a lot of reports of multiple fish days coming from boat anglers.
Salmon roe and grass shrimp have been in heavy demand but ghost
shrimp, fresh shad, lamprey eel and pile worms will all work if
you have to use them. Stick to looking at your electronics until
you find areas with good concentrations of fish before you drop
anchor and don't be afraid to stay on the move until you find
actively feeding fish and also don't be afraid to avoid the crowds
as the more popular spots are starting to attract a lot of boat
traffic.
Crappie:
The crappie have continued their wide open bite last week with
lots of fish and big ones at that being reported from various
marinas. Stick to areas close to but not directly in current,
preferably those with some wood or wood like structures in it
to attract those fish in. Stick with crappie jigs in red/white,
chartreuse/white or shad pattern or red worms or small minnows
under a bobber to draw strikes.

Flash
Fishing Report www.flashfishing.net
A
bit about Captain Steve, Captain Steve fished the San Francisco
Bay since 1970, when his grandfather would take him out to the
old Berkeley pier. He bought his first boat in 1980 and got his
Captain's license in 1997. He enjoys small groups (no more than
6) and gives personal attention to all. Having 2 young daughters
himself, he is especially patient with children on the boat. Bring
your own equipment or use Steve's top of the line equipment. Steve
has impressive state of the art commercial electronics on the
boat to optimize your fishing experience! And yes, we went to
the same High School, Welcome Capt. Steve!
I
am starting to see some nice Sturgeon. Also I think the fall bass
run is starting to go.Most of the action seems to be at night.
Saturday night we targeted bass.3 rods had 7 solid runs and many
drivebys.
I also know of fish up to 32lbs landed.I am not fishing this week
due to slow tides.Next week I will be in Cabo San Lucas for a
week. But the month of December I plan on pounding the fish.December
is full of great tides.
I hope you enjoy some photos from the last week.

New
Melones in Great Shape for Fat Trout
November
30, 2005
Bank
Anglers see results at Melones
Angels
Camp- Bank fishing has been picking up. We have a tie for the Glory
Hole Sports Big Fish of the Week Contest (salmonid). Al Judnich
of Sonora has had great luck shore-fishing in Angels Cove, with
both spoons and crawlers (Power Bait is another good choice). Al
caught a 3.5-pound rainbow from shore (he also caught a 3.4-pounder).
Charlie Krawchuk of Sonora also caught a 3.5-pounder, while trolling
35 feet deep by the spillway. So Al and Charlie share bragging rights
this week! As soon as the water temp drops a couple of more degrees,
bank fishing will really pick up. Trollers have been having best
luck the main lake, from 30-60 feet deep. However, with trout beginning
to be caught from shore, it’s time for the trollers to try
in the bigger coves and creek arms, and troll a little shallower.
Shad-patterned lures seem to be the ticket. Try a Cop Car or threadfin
shad Needlefish. Excel Lures have been really bringing in the limits-
try a blue/silver or blue/pink, or a shad-pattern. Most trollers
are not using dodgers or flashers. Greg Branson of Angels Camp caught
a pretty 3.1-pound rainbow on a shad-pattern Rapala, while trolling
12 feet deep near Glory Hole Point. Joe Hallett caught a 3.1-pounder
on a green Needlefish. We have heard several reports of a 9-pound
brown trout being caught, but we don’t have the details.
The
Bite is good for smaller bass. Many anglers have had a tough time
catching keeper fish. Most bass being caught are in the 1-2 pound
range, and still many anglers cannot find a limit. The bass are
there spooning and Rat-l-Trapping as the water temperature changes,
bass are moving from shallow water into deeper water. The bonus
here (or Nuisance) there are some big trout willing to grab these
baits as well. Areas that provide structure at different depths
are a good bet. Main lake points, submerged islands, and creek arms
are all good choices. Wind the wind comes up, fish the banks and
points that the wind blows into- the fish will move shallow to chase
the bait that the wind is blowing into the shore.
New
Melones Lake is currently holding 1,949,500 acre-feet of water,
and is at 81% capacity. The lake is full and beautiful. The lake
elevation rose slightly last week, and is at 1,048 ft. above sea
level and only 40 ft. from full capacity. Surface water temperatures
are approximately 61-62 degrees. Water is fairly clear by most lakes’
standards, but still more stained than is usual for Melones at this
time of year.

Camanche
Bass and Catfish Action Decent
Cooler temps bring on the Trout
Wallace-Cool
evening temperatures and bright sunny days have made for some great
fishing conditions this week at Lake Camanche. The weather made
it seem more like spring than fall, but the water is cold enough
for trout to prowl the surface;A much to the delight of the trout
trollers. Local resident Ted Allgood was trolling Needlefish in
silver/black, from Hat Island to Camper’s Cove, and caught
8 or 9 beautiful rainbows fishing about 15 feet deep. Jim and Gary,
from Roseville, caught 2 limits of trout trolling near the dam with
a dodger and a night crawler on the surface down to 15 feet deep.
2 gentlemen from Camanche Village, fishing on Wednesday, were using
a silver/gold dodger and a night crawler. They caught their limits
of trout with one nice rainbow weighing 5.5 pounds. Brad and Anthony,
from Merced, caught 2 limits of trout from the Day Use Point on
Tuesday; with a beauty weighing 5 pounds. They were using night
crawlers, jigs, and crawdads. The action at the South Shore Pond
has been very hot, with limits of trout a common occurrence. Power
Bait and Power Eggs as well as night crawlers are working well,
and float tubers using woolly buggers report fast action also. This
week’s trout plant of 1,200 pounds will be split between South
Shore launch ramp and South Shore Pond.
My
favorite and biggest nemesis the bass fishing remains very good
at Lake Camanche. Anglers fishing early and late report success
using topwater baits in China Gulch and Camanche Arm. Drop shotting
with 4-6 inch worms and leeches in green, purple, and smoke will
turn up bass in 8-20 feet of water. Gary Nishida, from Stockton,
rented a boat on Saturday and trolled 2 Rapala lures from the Narrows
heading up river. He caught numerous largemouth bass, several spotted
bass, a couple of trout, and a 2 pound crappie. He has never been
to Lake Camanche, was basically just seeing the sights here, and
trolled 2 lures everywhere he went on the lake. He came back in
raving about the beauty of the lake, the wonderful weather, the
variety of fish available to be caught, and the very reasonable
boat rental rates. I imagine he will be coming back to Lake Camanche
soon.s are cooperating quite nicely.
Lake
Camanche’s current elevation is 219.68 feet above sea level,
a drop of .20 feet since last Sunday. The lake should drop very
slowly this week. Water is currently flowing into Camanche at 278
c.f.s. and water is flowing out of Camanche at a rate of 330 c.f.s.
Surface water temperature at the marina is 60 degrees. The water
is very clear, with a Secchi reading of 18 feet.
