Delta Bite- by Dan Mathisen 2-2-2010

California Delta Fishing Report - brought to you by Dan Mathisen Outdoors

The Sacramento River and San Joaquin rivers both have plenty of debris but are very fishable. The San Joaquin River side does have more hyacinth and floating vegetation at times. Sturgeon weighing 45 to 70 pounds are showing at the Powerlines, below Decker Island and Lost Isle. Grass shrimp is unavailable because of water conditions.

Let's Talk Creatures Vince Borges
When I asked my kids what their favorite creature was, "Stitch" from Disney's "Lilo and Stitch", was their answer. Jim Carrey in the "Grinch", was my wife's response. But if you ask a die hard bass fisherman what their favorite creature is, I doubt their answer will be that of some Hollywood screenwriters imagination.

Transition Bass - Justin Dennison

If you take a second to look around you'll quickly notice that spring as sprung. Yea, I know the water temperatures are still in the low 50's, if even that right now, but rest assured that spring and pre-spawn are about to begin.

Big Bait Stripers

Big baits on the surface can be a blast here on the Delta, especially as the fall run gets underway. Stripers have been known to Blast on big baits that swim, pop and walk, though the remainder of the battle is always at or below the surface, when attacking a lure from below, a striper may emerge completely from its watery confines.

Hair Jigs Get Stripers

It’s almost time for the world-famous striped bass fishery  to move from the San Francisco Bay waters into the reaches of the West Delta. This certainly a phenomenon to be reckoned with as coast anglers can’t resist the enticement of the bold strike and battle offered by the legendary striped bass. So, the ocean fish  migrate east into the Western reaches of the Delta . Most won’t be disappointed, for these linesides are usually true to form, making their yearly venture punctually with little variation in their schedule

Insurance 101 Bob Miska
It’s late February, and the boat show season is half over. I have been at many of the boating/outdoor sporting shows this season talking to fisherman about their boat insurance and what their insurance needs are. What I have found surprised me, and actually scared me.
Understanding Tides Dan Mathisen

In 30 years of bass fishing, the most predictably and consistently productive waters I have found always been in Current. Here in the Delta tidal fluctuation is the key

Future Pro Excitement builds

SACRAMENTO, Ca. - One thing Northern California’s amateur anglers can be sure of is that the Thunder Valley Outdoors/Future Pro Tour, now entering its eighth season, will never compromise on trying to deliver the best tournament experience possible to those that want to build their bass fishing skills. And as the winter slowly loses its grip, and the memory of Jim Moulton and Jeff Auxier’s dynamic 2009 FPT Classic Championship victory is gradually replaced by the excitement and anticipation of a new season, the Future Pro Tour stands ready to deliver a 2010 program that is for sure to be the best ever.
